In Round 1 the club achieved the rare fete of winning all matches in both football and netball. Our seniors came out against Smythesdale looking to get a strong win on the board to kick the season off jumping out of the blocks from the first bounce running the ball in numbers then tackling and harassing their opponents, endeavouring to turn the ball over at any opportunity. Although there were a number of turnovers the guys were generally able to recover the ball at the next contest. Alex Bartlett showed what an asset he is, in his return match with a fine game in the midfield Nathan Skewes racked up quality possessions across half back carrying the ball to break the defensive lines, Will Young was a beacon up front with 9 goals. Joel Willmott had a good first up game in his return match as well. The back line worked as one to ensure the Smythesdale forwards were given no space to work in although a few skill errors proved costly. A 113 point victory was still a pleasing result in the first game of the year. The boys will be looking to keep the momentum going with a valuable win in Round 2.
In the Reserves match the guys were impressive with a strong win. Mick Dodds kicked 14 goals whilst Luke Relouw and Jake Wren were in great form getting plenty of support from Tom Micklright and Jessie Eastwell. Congratulations to Scott Cawthan and Jake Wren on playing their 50th senior matches.
